Happy July! Are you ready for some fun in the sun?

UPDATE... RAIN OR SHINE IN THE PAVILION
LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING YOU THERE!

If so, then check out the Vegetarian/Vegan Combined Meetup Group Picnic! We'll begin around noontime at the Whetstone Park of Roses.

To participate in this event, please take note of the following:

• Vegan burgers, dogs, fixin's, reusable plates, forks, and cups, along with a cooler with ice and grill will be provided.

• Please bring a side dish and/or beverages to share, accompanied by a label with its name, the word 'VEGAN', and a list of ingredients. UPDATE: Also, we're asking everyone to bring a place setting for yourself and each guest (plate/cup/fork/whatever you think you'll want). This should help reduce the environmental impact and make cleanup a breeze! Please consider putting your name on the list, as it will be easier for other members to connect with you if they're interested in obtaining your recipe. Know what you're going to bring? Please include it when you RSVP. All vegan and vegetarian dishes will be labeled as such.

• Feel free to bring along some outdoor play stuff (frisbees, horseshoes, volleyball, hula hoops, etc).

• Since the picnic will be a combined event with the Vegetarian Meetup Group, if you belong to both groups, please make sure you sign up only once.

• Want to bring a guest? The more the merrier! How about pets? Sure, bring them too!

• Meetup Location: Whetstone Park of Roses is located off of High Street near Clintonville. As you drive toward the back of the park, there will be a single pavilion off to your left, surrounded by picnic tables. The pavilion is first-come-first-served; therefore, Dan, esteemed organizer of the Vegetarian Group, has kindly offered to secure it for everyone. If all goes well, that's where we'll meet; if not, there are plenty of picnic tables nearby. And feel free to bring blankets! Everything is located in the same area, so we shouldn't be hard to find. If you have any questions between now and then, feel free to send me an email.

This should be a wonderful day and a fabulous opportunity to enjoy the summer sunshine, great company and some delicious munchies. Hope to see you there!

    •  What an intrepid group! Despite intermittent rain showers that kept us in the park shelter, the food was diverse and fabulous, as were those who attended! I had a great time. Thanks to the organizers!
    •  I am new to the Columbus area and this was my first meet up with the Vegetarian/Vegan group. What a FANTASTIC and FUN group of people! Everyone was so welcoming and very nice...I felt a sense of camaraderie and acceptance right away. I had taken my dog and everyone was so nice and helpful! I can't wait to go to another function and see my newest friends again! Thanks...this group is AWESOME.

I had a wonderful time meeting new people and sharing food recipes! The weather could have been a bit more cooperative... but that's life. :) Here's the recipe I brought: PEACH BLUEBERRY COBBLER **Taken from La Dolce Vegan by Sarah Krammer** FILLING 2 large peaches, pitted and roughly chopped ½ cup blueberries 1/3 cup unrefined cane sugar 1 tbsp flour TOPPING ¾ cup flour ¼ tsp sea salt 1 ½ tsp baking powder 1 tbsp unrefined cane sugar 2 tbsp oil ½ cup “milk” (I used unsweetened coconut milk.) 1 tbsp unrefined cane sugar Preheat oven to 375F. Lightly oil 8x8 baking dish, set aside. In medium bowl, stir together peaches, blueberries, sugar, and 1 tbsp flour. Spoon evenly into baking dish, set aside. In medium bowl, stir together ¾ cup flour, salt, baking powder, and 1 tbsp sugar. Add oil and “milk”, stir together well. Pour evenly over fruit and sprinkle top with 1 tbsp of sugar. Bake for 35-40 minutes or until topping is browned. Let sit 5 min.

Thanks, everyone, for coming out, despite the downpours and making this a highly enjoyable event!

People are very nice and kind. I was very happy, in 4 years it was the first time I met people alike.
    •  Great food, awesome company, and an all-around good time! Too bad about the rain, but we still had a wonderful time meeting people and sampling some fantastic vegan dishes.
    •  I had a lot of fun! It was wonderful meeting new people who share this type of lifestyle.
