North Carolina Band Brings Music and Film with Vegan Viewpoint
to Historic Hartford Venue

On Friday, May 29th Rock yer Socks in collaboration with the
Charter Oak Cultural Center will host an indie smorgasboard-
indie film, indie music, and indie ideology. The evening begins
at 8pm with a screening of the film, “Seeing Through the Fence”
(run time: 1 hour), followed by three musical acts: Mother
Nevada (NJ), The Kilee (CT), and Beloved Binge (NC). The film
screening/concert will be held at the Charter Oak Cultural
Center and the cost is $6 or only $5 with the donation of a
vegetarian canned good.

The film, created by Beloved Binge drummer Eleni Vlachos (or
Eleni Binge) is a humorous pro-vegan documentary. According to
Mary Jessica Hammes of the Athens-Banner Herald, "Seeing
Through the Fence accomplishes an impressive feat: It's a
documentary about animals, food and veganism that will not only
appeal to omnivores, but actually is quite often funny. It's
not dour and earnest; it's poignant and warm..."

This was one of the great ideas I received from members. Thanks and keep them coming. Since someone suggested going to Bloodroot and since I was going to be in Bridgeport that morning anyway this works out for me. I hope it works for you too.

If not don't worry I will scheduling a few more events in June because alot of stuff seems to be going on then. Also keep an eye on the message boards and calendar as I will be updating that as well.

Hope to see you there
Ben

We had a really good group last time and I would like to keep the momentum going. This Meetup was suggested by Sairam. I love this place so who am I too argue? If anyone would like to carpool I would be willing match people up with rides if you tell me where you're coming from.

I got the below invitation today and it sounds like a good time. I am assured all the food will be vegan. If we get a large group I should probably give the organizer a heads up so please respond if you are interested. I realize this is a long ways from New Haven but Windsor Locks is a stop on the Amtrak line(only .04 miles to the event) and there is probably an opportunity to carpool. Email me if you would like to find a ride. Here are the direction from the Amtrak station to the event: http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=S.+Main+St.+(Rte.+159),+Windsor+Locks,+CT+06096+(Windsor+Locks+Amtrak+Station)&daddr=41+Oak+Street,+Windsor+Locks,+CT&hl=en&geocode=FU_CfwIdrsar-yHSRyK0dIpotw%3B&mra=cc&dirflg=w&sll=41.929385,-72.62816&sspn=0.00811,0.015407&ie=UTF8&z=16

On February 22 at 5 PM, Northern Connecticut Vegetarians want
to invite the the New Haven Meetup Group to the Celtic/Irish
Vegan Potluck and Entertainment by a lively Celtic Band. The
band features Lisa Furman and BlueFlys Band. Lisa Furman on
guitar, Irish whistle and lead vocals, Chris Teskey on guitar,
Dick Neal on banjo and mandolin and Tahlia Furman on fiddle.
They play a fresh, progressive, eclectic blend of Celtic and
Americana music and perform regularly in southern Connecticut
and the New York City area. Please bring a Healthy Vegan dish
(Celtic if possible) to share along with a list of its
ingredients and attendee’s name. Also, attendees should bring
their place setting. A donation of $10 per adult is requested;
children are free. The Carniglia Senior Center, 41 Oak Street,
Windsor Locks is the location for this event. For
reservations or questions, call Harry at (860) 623-8082 or
email Harry at veggyharry@aol.com. For more information, see
www.northctveg.org.

Ben, we do hope your group will join us. Rest assured all food
will be VEGAN. The ingredients list for each dish and
nonvegan dishes are removed from the serving table. In fact,
we have 2 food tables at our events--one labeled for RAW VEGAN
and another for VEGAN. Reservations are requested as NCVS
yearly music program is a popular event. The music group comes
from New Haven area.

It seems like there is some interest is getting together Thanksgiving day. I think Pot Luck style would be best as I don't know how many restaurants would be open. I will see if I can find a place to meet that day but if any one has any suggestions let me know. Also I set the time for 2:00 but I can move that if the majority feels I should.
