Join us and hundreds of others for our annual South Florida Farm Sanctuary Walk For Farm Animals. In 2008, 58 cities hosted Walks with thousands of people taking to the streets with a message of compassion. This national event for farm animals grows stronger each year, thanks to this incredible spirit of activism and commitment from Farm Sanctuary members and supporters. You must sign up for this event on the Walk website. It helps if you show us on the Meetup site if you are coming, but please ensure that you register with Farm Sanctuary directly so that you get your walk T-shirt on the day. An don't forget to bring a picnic basket and join our picnic for farm animals before the walk! And don't forget to bring a picnic basket and join our picnic for farm animals before the walk![/color]

Please join us for a picnic in the park. Bring your own friends and your own food, or bring something along for an optional potluck. Your choice! Out of respect for the animals, please make sure to bring only vegan foods, meaning no meat, fish, poultry, eggs, dairy products, or honey. Dogs are welcome in the park, but must be kept on a leash. (The park has a lot of small wildlife; the leash requirement will be strictly enforced). There are barbeque's available, so if you want to roast up some veggie burgers or tofu dogs, you can go right at it! We have two pavilions and restrooms for both genders right on-site. All you have to bring is food, compassion, and friends. (If you belong to other Meetup groups please ask them to schedule a meetup at the picnic. We have capacity for 150, so let's do all we can to fill the place up).

This event will be updated withing a week or so. We are planning a picnic and petition signing meetup for the end of the month. Kids and Teens, if you can't make it to the events, post messages on our comment page about veganism, animal rights issues, connect with other members, share your ideas on the ways this group can get active! Such as bringing vegan awareness to others: fund raisers, protests supporting animal welfare, vegan outreach. This group was started for young veg'ns to feel connected and supported by others, their age, who are living a similar (sometimes challenging in our society) lifestyle.

Let's get together today to make a difference in the lives of circus animals! We'll get to visit the Animal Rights Foundation's office to watch a video & create art as we make posters to help the animals! Then we move to Las Olas to ask as many people as we can to sign "our" petition so that our schools won't support the Circus. Finally, we have a fun vegan picnic and celebrate the day! We need some of you TEENS out here too! Kids and especially teens have a great impact on the public as people see you are young yet, very AWARE and DOING SOMETHING ABOUT IT! Even more effective is that you are standing up for the rights of animals in a situation where the mainstream majority of spectators are usually young people. That makes adults (& other kids) STOP AND THINK! We will be meeting at the Animal Rights Foundation of Florida to view a presentation/video and make posters to bring with us to Las Olas Blvd. We will set up a table and possibly have the ARFF van as our group will be trying to collect petition signatures calling for the Broward County School Board to adopt a district-wide policy NOT TO SUPPORT circuses with animal acts through field trips or promotional material distribution. Following our tabling and petition signing, we will walk to a nearby park for a picnic. Please bring a dish to share and your own plates, etc. More information on why we need to petition the school board: Animals in Circuses are trained with violence and intimidation. The acts they are forced to perform deny all of their rights and miseducate kids about these animals by giving the impression that wild animals enjoy performing. In reality these tricks are painful and very much unnatural. Every circus with animal acts has a long list of Federal government-issued citations ranging from failure to provide veterinary care to inflicting physical harm. When not performing, animals spend their lives chained in cramped corridors and shipped around the country in filthy boxcars. For-profit circus promoters are committed to luring school children with field trips, ticket giveaways and other promotions. For children, animal acts are a detrimental example of our duty to conserve and respect fellow species. We need to bring this information to the public. YOU CAN HELP! It's time to kick the circus out of school!
